What happened to Midnight Gaming?

Midnight Gaming Limited was the British company associated with the former W88 UK website. Its Companies House record now lists it as dissolved on 23 June 2026. The business was incorporated on 16 April 2013 as Sporting Black Limited and used that name until January 2015. Its registered office was in Poole, Dorset.

The company’s filing history shows an application for voluntary strike-off in April 2026, followed by the final dissolution notice in June. That is a company-register event, separate from the surrender of its gambling permissions more than two years earlier. An old reference describing Midnight as an active company or licensed operator therefore needs to be read in the context of when it was written.

W88 and Gameplay Interactive

Midnight Gaming’s domain register contains two addresses: w88.co.uk and gameplayint.co.uk. Both are inactive on this account. W88 and Gameplay Interactive are the names associated with those addresses; Gameplay Interactive and gameplayint.co.uk should not be counted as two separate additions to the same list.

W88 was the prominent consumer-facing name, while Midnight Gaming was the company named on the British licence. These are different kinds of name, rather than two independent sister casinos. The register connects the domains to this former licensed company, but it does not by itself establish who owns every international business using the W88 brand.

The betting and casino permissions ended in 2024

The Gambling Commission’s licence summary records real-event betting permission from 21 February 2014 and remote casino permission from 22 August 2019. Both were surrendered with an end date of 10 February 2024. The later casino start date reflects a separate permission; it should not be substituted for the earlier betting history.

The screenshot above shows the register while those activities were still marked active. The two green active labels reflect the earlier record, before the February 2024 surrender. Neither the old screenshot nor Midnight’s former licence provides present-day British permission for a W88 website.

Why W88 continued appearing in football

The W88 name did not disappear when Midnight’s permissions ended. Sunderland announced W88 as its principal and shirt partner for the 2025/26 season. The announcement published by W88 explicitly described the agreement as operating outside the United Kingdom and targeting overseas markets. It also referred to earlier partnerships with Aston Villa, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Wolves.

That explains how a British football supporter could see the same logo after the end of the old UK operation. Sponsorship identifies the advertised brand and the club’s commercial partner; it does not revive Midnight Gaming’s surrendered permissions. Nor does it mean that a W88 account opened elsewhere belongs to the dissolved British company.

Identifying an older W88 account

For an old account, the company named in its terms, confirmation emails and transaction records is more useful than the logo alone. A later operator using a familiar brand does not automatically take over that account or its balance. Midnight’s former domains, its licensing dates and its company history provide the details needed to distinguish that British operation from later or overseas services.
